Be Strong#62
Dirty Freak Dancin’
The end of school is just around the corner and with that comes school sponsored parties, proms, and dances. I know your desire for your child is to enjoy opportunities like these with their friends in a wholesome environment. You want them to have a great time with their friends and just have fun. But what is going at these parties and dances that are sponsored by schools and parents? What is really happening when the lights are low and the rap music is blowing? What kind of music are your kids dancing to? What is happening on the dance floor in the crowded mass of kids? Who are the sponsors at that party? Are they great parents who are monitoring every detail of the night to make sure that the environment is pure, good clean fun? Maybe? Maybe not!
I was appalled to hear about a recent dance in our area where things got completely out of hand. It was reported that during the dance that dresses were being pulled up, panties pulled down, rubbing on body parts, and at least one instance of sexual penetration witnessed by other kids. Are you kidding me! That kind of behavior was happening at what should have been a wholesome dance. Is that the kind of party that you want your kids to participate in? Absolutely not! It got so bad at this dance that police had to break up the dirty dancing and told the DJ to stop playing rap music. I am also told that this is becoming an all too common view of how dances should be conducted in our community these days. By the way, have your checked out the top 40 songs today? Google it and be amazed at what our kids are listening to. That choice of music seemed to be the thing that had aroused the teens. Thank you officer for stopping it. But where were the parent sponsors? Why weren’t they the ones to turn up the lights and stop the debauchery? Maybe, just maybe they didn’t think it was so bad. Maybe they got caught up in the moment as well. There are parents who want their kids to have fun no matter what. That’s number one on their list and not necessarily good clean wholesome fun.
So, parents what is going on at the parties and dances that your kids are going to? Make sure you know who the sponsors are and make sure you know what their desire is. In fact, get involved yourself and sponsor the event, if at all possible. If anything happens that is inappropriate, BE STRONG and take a stand. Turn on the lights. Stop the music. Clear the room, if necessary. We need to be light in a dark world and make sure everything our kids are involved in honors the name of Jesus. Colossians 3:17, “Whatever you do, whether in word or in deed do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus giving thanks to God the Father through Him,” Everything! Every party! Every dance! Every activity! All in the name of Jesus. That means every detail of their life. Every 8th grade dance and after party! Every Sweet 16! Every Senior Prom! All in the name of Jesus! And if you cannot control what happens, then band together with other Jesus loving parents and sponsor your own event. Remember! We are in a battle for the hearts and souls of our kids. Satan hates them and he loves darkness. Be strong in the Lord and shine with brightness the light of Christ.
Tomorrow night at Impact and Refuel our topic is “Dirty Freak Dancin’” We are going to shine the light on this dark behavior and encourage our kids to be alert. We are going to talk about Colossians 3:17, 1 Corinthians 10:31 and Romans 12:1-2. We are going to discuss how they make the connection in all of life with Jesus and everything else that is going on in their lives. Even on the dance floor. Please encourage your kids to join us if at all possible. In fact, come hang out with us yourself. We would love for you to join us. And remember – BE STRONG in the Lord today and never, ever forget that you are the parent. We are standing with you.
In His Joy!

I heard a rumor that youth will return to Israel this summer, 2010. Do you have more info?
Great question. That rumor is heading in the right direction, but not totally right. We are praying and planning so that we can take a group of high school juniors and seniors to Israel in the summer of 2011. The prospective dates are July 29 – August 6, 2011. Please pray with us about this!
